Slow Cooked Beef in Beer

Ingredients
  

  • plain flour and seasoning for dusting the diced beef
  • 500 g stewing beef trimmed and diced into 2-3 cm cubes
  • 50 ml olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic
  • 3 sprigs thyme
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 bay leaf
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 375 ml James Boag beer
  • 150 g tomatoes peeled, deseeded, cut into a large dice
  • 200 g baby onions peeled and kept whole
  • 150 g carrots peeled and cut into 2cm chunks
  • 150 g turnips peeled and cut into wedges
  • 300 g cocktail potatoes

Method
 

  1. Assemble your ingredients
  2. Turn your slow cooker to maximum
  3. Dust the beef in seasoned flour
  4. Heat the oil in a pan and in batches brown the beef
  5. In the slow cooker add the stock, beer, garlic, thyme, cinnamon and bay leaf
  6. Cover and cook for 2 hours
  7. Add all the vegetables and cook for a further 1½-2 hours until both the meat and the vegetables are tender
  8. Adjust the seasoning
  9. Ready
  10. Serve on its own
